Civitan Club

Civitan was founded in Birmingham, Alabama in 1917.  The mission of Civitan is to build good citizenship by providing a volunteer organization of clubs dedicated to serving individual and community needs with an emphasis on helping people with developmental disabilities.

The three basic principles of Civitan are service, knowledge and fellowship.  The Civitan's motto is "Builders of Good Citizenship".

The Carleton Place & District Civitan Club is one of nearly 1,000 Civitan Clubs worldwide. Civitan is a worldwide community service organization of more than 30,000 men and women in 24 nations on four continents who work together in community clubs to help those less fortunate than themselves. Civitan clubs provide a great deal of service to their communities, with emphasis on aid to people with mental retardation and developmental disabilities (MR/DD), youth leadership development, and good citizenship. Civitans also fund the Civitan International Research Center, a research and treatment facility for MR/DD, located at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

The Civitan International Web Site is a wonderful source of information and can be visited at www.civitan.org

The Canadian District East Civitan Clubs include: Almonte, Aylmer, Brockville & District, Carleton Place & District, Chateauguay, Cobden, Elite Civitan of Gananoque, Kingston & District, Lachine, Lakeshore, Lanark, Pembroke, Perth, Greater Petawawa & Smiths Falls.  Visit the Civitan Canadian District East at www.civitancanada.org

Through Civitan, club members discover the best in themselves and in others. Civitan gives members opportunities to develop new friendships and business acquaintances as well as gain valuable leadership skills that can be used in all aspects of life. Most importantly, however, people find in the organization an opportunity to give their time to make their communities better places to live and work.

The Carleton Place & District Civitan Club meets regularly on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month at the Lanark Community Living Building located at 178 Townline Road, Carleton Place.
